About

“Karibu” means “Welcome” in Swahili, an official language of Tanzania, and that is how the the people there made me feel. Their warmth and smiles welcomed me and their need made me want to partner with them to build a better life for the children I met.

I had the privilege of volunteering as a teacher at Venerate Orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania over the summer. I am pictured with twin girls named Bright and Brilliant, whose education I am sponsoring. While there, I met many selfless people who gave so freely their time and energy to help provide a safe and caring environment for the many children in need.

Venerate orphanage is just one of many organizations supported by Selfless Solutions and/or the Karibu Foundation, run by architect Mark Matolo. They work with orphanages and daycare centers to ensure that children are provided with food, clean water, shelter, clothes, education through sponsorship, and a safe place to call home. With the help of individual donors and organizations, they have been able to execute several projects to completion, some are still in progress, and others are yet to start due to insufficient resources.
